Wooden zoomorphic works created by sculptor Martalar from the remains of trees destroyed by the storm nicknamed Vaia, which strongly hit Trentino on the night of 29 October 2018, destroying a large part of its forests and causing extensive damage to the territory.

DISCOVERING CASTLES: CASTEL TELVANA, CASTEL IVANO, CASTEL PERGINE, CASTELLO DEL BUONCONSIGLIO

There are numerous wonderful castles to visit in Trentino. Four of these, on a route that runs along the Valsugana until it reaches the main town, can be easily reached from our facility.

Castel-Telvana-Borgo-ValsuganaTelvana Castle

Where: Borgo Valsugana (TN)
Distance from Coronata Haus: 3.9 km – 9 min by car
www.visitvalsugana.it

The castle dates back to the 12th century and was probably built on an earlier Roman fortification. For a long time Castel Telvana was the seat of jurisdiction of the Lords of Valsugana, only to be partly abandoned between the 18th and 19th centuries. In this phase the castle, deprived of any restoration work, suffered serious damage that was later aggravated by the war events of the early 20th century. In the 1960s it was purchased by Ugo Simonetti, remaining in the family’s possession until today.

Castel Telvana cannot be visited internally, but can be reached along a pleasant path that starts from the historical centre of Borgo Valsugana, passes by the Church of the Friars and reaches the castle, before continuing on to the village of Telve di Sopra after a final stop at the remains of Castel San Pietro.

Castel Ivano

Ivano Castle

Where: Castel Ivano (TN)
Distance from Coronata Haus: 10 km – 14 min by car
www.castelivano.it

The castle dates back to the 12th century but was most probably built on an earlier Longobard settlement dating back to between the 6th and 7th centuries. After many changes of ownership, the castle was bought by Franz Staudacher in 1918 and remains in the family’s possession to this day.

Ivano Castle can be visited by appointment.

Castel Pergine

Pergine’s Castle

Where: Pergine Valsugana (TN)
Distance from Coronata Haus: 21 km – 24 min drive
www.castelpergine.it

A medieval fortress dating back to the 13th century, Castel Pergine stands on an earlier Roman settlement. Long owned by the Tyrolean princes, during the 20th century the castle was purchased by a Swiss family originally from Pergine. In 2018 it finally became collective property of the non-profit Castelpergine Foundation.

Castel Pergine is open to the public at the times indicated on the website.

Buonconsiglio Castle

Where: Trento (TN)
Distance from Coronata Haus: 33 km – 30 min by car
www.buonconsiglio.it

On the site of an ancient Roman castrum, Buonconsiglio Castle was built around the 13th century. Until the 18th century and in particular until the incursions of Napoleon’s army, the castle was the seat of the Prince-Bishops of Trento. In the 19th century the castle was used as military barracks by the Austrians. In 1974 the castle became the property of the Autonomous Province of Trento, after it was purchased by the Italian State in 1918.

Buonconsiglio Castle is open to the public during the hours indicated on the website.
